Residents in Evansville and the Tri-State have survived tornados, ice and wind storms, droughts, and other natural disasters throughout the decades, but one of the most memorable weather events occurred in 1937 when the Ohio Valley experienced record flooding. The result was devastating, with forced evacuations from residences, closed schools and businesses, and an aftermath of destruction and clean-up totaling millions of dollars. Despite the difficult circumstances, numerous photos of the flood were taken over a period of several weeks; these images depict its effect on the many neighborhoods and regions it reached. Archivist Patricia Sides will show a selection of the images and discuss some of the more important highlights of this great event.
