Children at McGary Middle School have been very busy this summer. Since summer school began this year, students have helped start a community garden, helped to construct a greenhouse, used real-world data from the Tri-State Food Bank to explore mathematical concepts and researched childhood hunger.
After learning more about the scarcity of food in our community and around the world, the students decided to create their own service learning project, the McGary Big Give.Included in the McGary Give Back Project was a student organized McGary Walk for Food Justice Activity-A-Thon. As part of the event, students pledged to walk 16 miles in four days to raise a goal of $500 for the Tri-State Food Bank. In addition, students have been busy contacting area businesses and utilizing social media to raise money and food for the food bank. Approximately 35 students will present a check and food donations to the Tri-State Food Bank, tomorrow, June 30 at 10 a.m.
